Notes
One of the most important things to understand about lifting is that you can’t force progress.
You have to show up, put in good effort with good form, and trust that improvement will come over time. You can’t control the rate at which your body will adapt to exercise. Everyone’s progress looks different, so why not let go of that pressure?
I like to log my training to see how things are going, but I try not to have expectations around how fast gains will happen. Strength naturally fluctuates—day to day, week to week, even month to month. That’s just how it is.
If you stick with it long enough, you’ll hit some high points. Other times things will dip, and that’s completely normal. The real danger is expecting to be at peak performance all the time or thinking you can predict exactly when that will happen.
Expecting progress constantly just makes training miserable. You know what they say? Expectation is the thief of joy.
It’s better to show up, let it happen and enjoy the process.
